Saffron says: “Great things are never done by one person. They are done by a team of people.”

How does a normal day start?

I hate to say it, but I am a morning person. So typically, I spring out of bed pretty easily. I also enjoy coming to the office most days, and flexible working means that I can start my day at 8am to miss the morning rush hour traffic.

Why did you join Sandwell Council?

As a graduate, it offered the opportunity to work directly with senior officers and get involved with projects and pieces of work across organizational boundaries helping me to develop a range of skills.

What is your role?

National Graduate Trainee

What do you do in your role?

The graduate role at Sandwell is a fast-track graduate programme for passionate individuals who want to make a difference while excelling in their own careers. It offers the chance to work directly with communities, but also to influence policies and plans at a senior level. All while completing a council-specific leadership and management qualification.

What’s been your most memorable moment so far?

I have only been working at Sandwell Council for 4 months, so I’m still pretty new, but hands down my best moment so far has been working directly with councillors to make a tangible difference in residents lives.

What would you be doing if you didn’t work here?

If I wasn’t working at Sandwell Council, most likely I would be a teacher. Trying to make a positive impact on the next generation.

What advice would you give someone considering a career with Sandwell Council?

If you are looking for a career where you can make a positive impact on local communities with a united team, then here at Sandwell, you will be surrounded by a team who are keen to support and develop you to ensure that you can make the best beneficial influence you can.
