Early! But It’s worth every minute.
Why did you join Sandwell Council?
They were recruiting for an apprenticeship within the grounds maintenance department with a relevant qualification.
What is your role?
Parks gardener.
What do you do in your role?
I’m responsible for the maintenance of Lightwoods park and Shakespeare Garden.
What’s been your most memorable moment so far?
Securing my job as Parks gardener and being the first female one.
What would you be doing if you didn’t work here?
I would probably have been in my previous job, volunteering to try and get gardening experience and knowledge.
What advice would you give someone considering a career with Sandwell Council?
You just need to go for it, there’s nothing to lose and everything to gain. My experience has been really positive, I’ve had great support and have been given lots of opportunities, experiences and knowledge to help me in the job I do today.
