Housing and Communities at Sandwell Council is continuing to move forward with its programme of new build social housing in response to the increasing demand within the borough.

A new development at Carisbrooke Road, Wednesbury, has been designed by the council’s Urban Design and Building Services team and follows a successful assisted living scheme at Oxford Road West Bromwich. Funding has been provided by Sandwell MBC and Homes England.

The development is located on a site previously containing a high-rise block and maisonettes which were demolished in 2004. The site has since suffered from anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping.

Ground levels across the site varied considerably and presented some difficult challenges resulting in major ground retention works and a surface water attenuation scheme.

The development consists of a mixture of forty six 2, 3 and 4 bedroomed houses and four 2 bedroomed flats and Urban Design has created an attractive modern housing layout within a landscaped area which provides secure and desirable social housing accommodation.

The dwellings have been designed on a lifetime home basis which will cater for the needs of the tenants throughout their occupancy.

The houses have now been completed and handed over.
