Chris says: "Every day is new and exciting with the council"

How does a normal day start?

My day starts at 7am. First I sign the sign in sheet and then I go to my chargehand to check our van and go through our job sheets to ensure we have the correct equipment to complete the jobs to our best abilities.

Why did you join Sandwell Council?

I joined Sandwell Council as I have been doing landscaping for a few years and I wanted to gain more skills and knowledge by attending the training that the council has to offer. I wanted to make a difference in my area.

What is your role?

My role at Sandwell Council is an estates maintenance operative.

What do you do in your role?

In my role I do many different jobs, such as maintaining landscapes from gardens to highway areas, parks, and garage sites.

What’s been your most memorable moment so far?

My most memorable moment is when I received a phone call from the supervisor asking me to join the council. She also trained me on a tractor, which is something I have also wanted to achieve.

What would you be doing if you didn’t work here?

If I didn’t work at Sandwell Council, I would be working for Spacecare as a supervisor on ground maintenance.

What advice would you give someone considering a career with Sandwell Council?

The advice I would give to someone considering working for Sandwell Council is to attend all the training they have to offer and continue to work with your team to ensure every job is a success. Every day is new and exciting with the council.
