If you can't cook or prepare food for yourself, you may be able to have a cooked or frozen meal delivered to your home by our Community Meals service.
This is sometimes known as 'meals on wheels'.
How much do the meals cost?
Each meal costs £4.00 including delivery. That means it costs around £28 a week to receive a hot, nutritious meal delivered every day including weekends, Bank Holidays and at Christmas. The cost is revised every year.
This service is subsidised by the council.
What is the food like?
We deliver tasty, nutritionally balanced two-course meals - usually a main course and a dessert.
Our regular dishes include pies, casseroles, roast dinners, curries, spaghetti bolognese, veggie burgers and jacket potatoes.
Most of our meals are served with a selection of vegetables including potatoes, carrots, peas, cabbage, cauliflower and swede.
Desserts include crumbles, cakes, fruit cocktail and rice pudding.
There's also an alternative main dish every day, as well as a vegetarian option. We can cater for most dietary requirements and religious or cultural needs.
We offer an alternative dessert option for diabetics, and anyone who doesn't fancy a dessert can choose cheese and biscuits or fresh fruit instead.
Who is eligible?
Community Meals are for people who struggle to prepare their own food in their own home.
We will do an assessment of your needs to see if you are eligible to receive Community Meals.
If you are eligible, you can have Community Meals for just a short period of time, or longer if needed.
Our service is suitable for people with long-term needs and for anyone recovering from an illness or accident who need some extra help while they recover.
If you need help to prepare food and you have other care needs, you may also be entitled to a personal budget.
When are meals delivered?
If you request hot meals, they will be delivered every day at an arranged time between 11.30am and 2.30pm.
