The council is currently looking into arrangements for transport for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) for the new school year in September 2024 following a review of existing transport arrangements.

Sandwell Council's Cabinet agreed the new approach on 29 May, which sets out how the council appoints its transport providers with a proposal to extend some existing arrangements.

The current arrangements were introduced in 2022 with contracts due to expire on 31 August 2024. 

The council needs to ensure it delivers the best services for children with SEND which also complies with our best value duty on how we use resources.  

Letters have been sent to parents and carers and transport providers to keep them informed of the process.

For transport operators

We are looking at establishing a flexible purchasing system comprising of a number of Lots relating to travel assistance for children and adults. 

Details of the process to express an interest are now on our Intend website.
