Volunteering opportunities
The YOS have some volunteering opportunities in relation to work with young people.
Panel member volunteer
Panel members are required to sit on a panel to decide the tasks that young people will complete as part of the referral order given by the court. Panels sit a minimum of three evenings a week from 5pm to 7.30pm.
The tasks include:
- Attend panel meetings at least once a month
- Read reports prepared by YOS Officers in relation to young people and their offences
- Engage with young people and families at the panel meeting
- Agree with other panel members the tasks that the young person should undertake
- Review orders on a three monthly basis
- If a young person is not complying with the contract they have to attend a breach panel. Panel members decide if the young person should be returned to court
- Review progress at the end of orders before signing off as completed
- Attend quarterly panel member meetings and training events
Reparation worker volunteer
The role involves overseeing and working alongside young people completing reparation tasks as part of their order.
Reparation activities occur twice a week on a Friday evening and all day on Saturday.
The tasks include:
- Attend quarterly meetings
- Work alongside young people whilst they are completing reparation activities
- Engage with young people
- Prepare feedback to YOS officers of the young people's engagement
