What is noise nuisance?
Noise nuisance is when you feel that noise from a neighbouring property has disrupted you. Examples of noise nuisance could be:
- Shouting/arguments
- Excessively loud music
- Frequent parties
- Excessively loud singing
- Excessively loud vehicle noise
- Excessively loud and frequent DIY
- Excessive noise from dogs barking
Noise from children playing is unlikely to constitute a statutory noise nuisance.
When should noise nuisance be reported?
You should report noise nuisance when noise from a neighbouring property is disrupting you, affecting your health or if you have concerns around the noise that you are hearing.
How do I report it?
Log onto my.sandwell.gov.uk and complete the Anti-Social Behaviour form
What evidence will be needed?
It will need to be evidenced that there is an issue with ongoing, frequent and excessive noise nuisance. An Officer will contact you to discuss your concerns in more detail and the ways in which you can provide evidence such as diary sheets or noise recordings (for domestic noise this may be via the noise app).
What is the noise app?
If appropriate you may be asked to use the noise app to gather evidence of domestic noise problems. The app can be downloaded from an app store onto a suitable android or apple device and used to make sound recordings of the noise nuisance that is affecting you.
What action will be taken?
Where it is demonstrated that noise nuisance has occurred, proportionate action will be taken, this action will not always be enforcement or tenancy breach action. We are also able to offer support and guidance to help residents to reduce the noise that they are creating.
