Your Tenant Rights
When you sign an assured shorthold tenancy (AST) agreement, you gain a set of rights as a tenant that your landlord or letting agent should respect and adhere to. If your landlord behaves in a way that contravenes these rights, their actions may be regarded as constituting a legal offence and your local council may be able to take enforcement action. Under your AST, your landlord is legally obliged to do the following:
Provide all 'start of tenancy' paperwork | Your landlord or agent must provide you with: A How to Rent guide, up to date Gas Safety Certificate, what protection scheme your deposit is going into, an up to date EPC, an up to date Electrical Installation Condition Report. |
