There are two types of safety visits that could be carried out on your home, one is the Fire Safety visit carried out by a Sandwell Council Officer and the other is a Safe and Well Visit carried out by the West Midlands Fire Service. Here is an explanation of the purpose of the visits and what will take place;
Fire Safety Visit
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council officer(s) will via a booked appointment make a visit to your home to discuss, identify and find practical solutions to fire safety concerns raised by yourself or someone on your behalf. Our flats are designed to resist the spread of fire from one property to another and therefore there should be no need to fully evacuate buildings. If you feel you may not be able to self- evacuate in the case of an emergency, we can look at options to ensure you remain safe.
Safe and Well Visit
You can request West Midlands Fire Service to visit your home and undertake a Safe and Well visit free of charge. The visits are undertaken by operational fire fighters and usually take around an hour. These visits are an important part of prevention and look to improve fire safety in the home.
It should be noted that the Fire Service prioritise and target the most vulnerable in the community. If you are not eligible for a visit, you will still be sent a copy of the Safe and Well handbook.
