Summary of services
Tourism for All UK (TfA) is an independent charity supporting leisure and tourism opportunities for all, operating an information service to disabled and older people, and working with the industry and government to raise the standards of welcome to all guests. TfA provides information to disabled and older people on accessible accommodation and other tourism services in the UK and overseas. Every year they respond to thousands of people who may need help and support to enable them to take a break they may not have previously believed possible. TfA`s information service is backed by a website, www.tourismforall.org.uk, and supported by a helpline, 0845 124 9971. The aim is to provide lively, inspirational and comprehensive information that encourages people to try new things, see new places, and live life to the full!Carrie-Ann Lightley runs TfA`s information service. As a wheelchair user herself she understands what it is to experience difficulties in finding suitable facilities and services.`It wasn`t until I started working for TfA that I realised travel can be made easier.`As well as accommodation, travel, and attractions, TfA provides information about activity holidays for disabled people; equipment hire; places where care is available; escorts & carer services; and sources of finance towards the cost of a holiday for people on low income. They are also working on a project called OpenBritain which is a new website that aims to provide a large range of accessible information, so that finding a holiday or trip to meet your requirements will be easier than ever before. The new site will include a list of accessible destinations as well as providing you with an overview of each region with England, Scotland and Wales. It also provides a useful information section that should help with all aspects of travelling around. Whether it`s a hotel with wheelchair access or a restaurant with a braille menu Open Britain will help to provide you with the perfect choice of locations for your time away. You can search by region or by category of provider, and identify your precise needs so that a list is generated of all the places that meet your personal requirements.
