Children at Hamstead Infant School recently held an assembly to celebrate the five winners of a competition to design a road safety banner

All the students chosen contributed to the finished design and were awarded with a road safety certificate and road safety goodies for their wonderful efforts. The banner will be placed outside the school to raise further awareness to parents/carers and the local community
The competition was launched as concerns had been raised by the school that some parents and carers were parking illegally and irresponsibly at the start and end of the school day, putting children and parents at risk of injury on their journey to and from school.
Sandwell Road Safety delivered an assembly to raise awareness of the situation, encourage children to walk to school whenever possible and give them reminders about pedestrian safety on the journey to and from school.
Acting Deputy Head Teacher, Mrs. Demi Hughes, said: “"The safety of our children at Hamstead Infant School is extremely important and whilst we put everything in place to keep our children safe in school, it is often more challenging to do so outside of the school gates. Our children have enjoyed taking part in the parking campaign led by Sandwell Council and are really proud of the new banner which will be displayed on our school gates as a reminder for all."
Leader of Sandwell Council, Councillor Kerrie Carmichael, said: “It’s great to see the children’s work. I hope their wonderful banner will encourage and remind everyone to drive more safely near all our schools.
