Young people and youth workers in Sandwell shone a light on the variety of youth work they do in a range of different places and spaces, as part of the national Youth Work Week celebration.

Week-long celebrations in Sandwell included opportunities for people to find out more about job and volunteer opportunities with the Youth Service.

Attendees were able to have a go at some of the activities on offer to young people including music making at Coneygre Arts Centre and archery and indoor climbing at Malthouse Stables.

Councillor Simon Hackett, Sandwell Council's Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “Our youth workers do a fantastic job of supporting young people all year round and it's been great during national Youth Work Week to be able to shine a light on the great work they are doing.

“We would like to encourage young people to make use of the great facilities and youth offer we have available in Sandwell.”

From youth clubs to detached youth work sessions, music and arts activities to climbing, archery and canoeing, our youth workers have a range of skills to engage young people. Sandwell Youth Service provides safe and welcoming spaces, creative and fun things to do and most importantly a listening ear.

Whether young people are struggling educationally, with their mental health or looking for employment, Sandwell's youth workers are able to support young people with most issues or help them to access more specialist support.

Parents, carers and young people can find out more about what is available from Sandwell Youth Service.

The annual national Youth Work Week (6-12 November), hosted by the National Youth Agency, aims to raise awareness of the life-changing difference youth workers have on young people.

This year, Youth Work Week was focused on the breadth of youth work taking place across the country: in youth centres, outdoor activity centres, cultural spaces and so much more.
