Sandwell Leisure Trust (SLT) is celebrating having won two separate awards at The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) awards.

Not only did SLT win a Gold Award for the 18th consecutive year, meaning that it was also named as an Order of Distinction award winner for setting consistently high standards over many years, it was also the sole winner of The Leisure Safety Trophy 2024.

SLT is delighted to maintain and achieve these results by the hard work and commitment of our staff teams. SLT is one of the few leisure operators to maintain this standard and be recognised under the RoSPA Leisure Safety Trophy, the top safety award under leisure category.

RoSPA is the leading voice in health and safety that campaigns to reduce avoidable accidents at home, on the road, at work and at leisure.

The ultimate symbol of achievement in safety and excellence, the internationally renowned RoSPA Health and Safety Awards recognise organisations, teams and projects across all sectors for their unwavering commitment to protecting lives - setting the benchmark for prestige and inspiring sector-wide admiration. By earning a RoSPA Award, organisations not only receive recognition for their accomplishments but also become part of a legacy that values dedication to high safety standards, the well-being of individuals, and signifies a commitment to excellence.

RoSPA Leisure Safety Trophy recognises health and safety performance among companies that primarily offer services direct to guests and visitors.

As of this year, the RoSPA award entry process can be used as reflective practise to contribute to continuing professional development (CPD).

Councillor Suzanne Hartwell, Deputy Leader of Sandwell Council and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Community, said:

“Receiving the Gold Awards award for the eighteenth year in a row is a remarkable achievement in itself, but then being named as the winner of The Leisure Safety Trophy 2024 really reflects and celebrates all the hard work of the SLT team. I would like to congratulate all the team for ensuring that the residents of Sandwell are able to access such wonderful services.”

Julia Small, RoSPA’s Achievements Director, said:

“Workplace accidents don’t just pose financial risks and operational disruptions; they significantly impact the quality of life for individuals. This is why acknowledging and rewarding excellent safety performance is vital.

“We congratulate SLT for winning these prestigious RoSPA Awards and showing an unwavering commitment to keeping employees, clients and customers safe from accidental harm and injury.”

Sponsored by Croner-i, the RoSPA Awards scheme is the longest-running of its kind in the UK, and receives entries from organisations across the globe, making it one of the most sought-after achievement awards for the health and safety industry.

Ben Chaplain, Managing Director at Croner-i, said:

“We are proud to sponsor the RoSPA Awards for a second year, which emphasises our dedication to prioritising health and safety—an essential foundation for lasting success and wellbeing at work.”
