Bring a tin – and put something in the bin!

Sandwell Council, in partnership with SCVO, have made it simple to take part in this year’s Volunteers’ Week and the Big Help Out from 3 to 9 June.

During Volunteers’ Week you can make a massive difference to local people’s lives by dropping off a tin of food at your local library in Sandwell during Volunteers’ Week from 3 to 9 June.

As part of the Big Help Out, we are hosting two spring cleaning activities at West Smethwick Park and Haden Hill Park on 8 and 9 June between 10am to 12noon. While you’re at the parks, you can join in a spring clean if you wish and get all the gear to keep you safe while you do it. You can also drop of a tin of food at these parks during the clean up sessions.

James McLaughlin, Assistant Chief Executive of Sandwell Council, said:

“Volunteers are the backbone to our communities and we appreciate the work they do to support services to deliver much-needed services for local people in Sandwell.

“I ask anyone who has time to help out to look up volunteer opportunities on Let’s Go Sandwell or simply support our campaign and “Bring a Tin” to do your bit and show Sandwell some love. Alternatively, there is the opportunity to get involved in the Big Help Out activities planned at West Smethwick Park and Haden Hill Park.”

Sandwell food banks are desperately short of tinned goods to distribute to the hundreds of families relying on them. All tins collected in libraries and parks will be taken to the nearest food bank.
