On Sunday 10 November, events will be held across Sandwell to mark Remembrance Sunday, as people from all faiths, backgrounds and cultures unite to honour our fallen heroes.
There will seven parades across Sandwell’s six boroughs with representation from the West Midlands Lieutenancy for each parade. Anyone wishing to watch the parades is advised to be there from 10.30am.
Parades will be followed by services, where a two-minute silence will be observed at war memorials at 11am. These events have been organised by the Royal British Legion, Sandwell Council staff, local community groups, with support from Sandwell Council.
This year, there will be parades with services in the following locations:
- Great Barr – St Margaret’s Church
- Oldbury – Oldbury Civic Square
- Rowley Regis – Powke Lane Cemetery
- Smethwick – Smethwick Council House
- Tipton – Victoria Park
- Wednesbury – Memorial Gardens
- West Bromwich – Dartmouth Park
The services are open to anyone who would like to pay their respects. However, members of the public are advised that there will temporary road closures for parades during these events.
The Mayor of Sandwell, Councillor Syeda Khatun MBE, said: “Remembrance Sunday is a day to pay respect to all the men and women who have sacrificed their lives and remember all our armed forces and their families. I hope residents are able to attend one of the seven services taking place in Sandwell.
“I would like to thank everyone who has helped organise Sandwell’s Remembrance parades and services. The day would not be possible without the dedication and support from the Royal British Legion, all our wonderful volunteers and our residents.”
