Sandwell residents can discover potential savings on their energy bills through the latest round of Big Community Switch, a free community group buying scheme designed to secure better energy deals.
People in Sandwell have until Monday 17 March to register their interest.
Since its inception in 2012, the Big Community Switch has seen over 2.1 million people register their interest in switching energy contracts and giving them an easy, hassle-free way to switch to a competitive fixed tariff.
The initiative brings households together to combine their buying power, enabling trusted and vetted energy suppliers to compete for their custom. This process not only helps people see how much money they might save but also promotes the use of 100% renewable electricity energy tariffs, so they don’t have to choose between savings and sustainability.
The Big Community Switch is simple, hassle-free, and comes with no obligation to switch providers. Households can register online at bigcommunityswitch.co.uk by Monday 17 March, after which suppliers will compete to offer the most competitive rates. Once the auction is complete, participants will receive a Personal Offer, allowing them to decide whether the new tariff is right for them.
The Leader of Sandwell Council, Councillor Kerrie Carmichael, said:
“As a council we want to do everything we can to help our residents save money while remaining warm. By registering for this service our residents could get access to a better energy deal which they can either accept or not. Sandwell also offers a wide range of support services and money-saving tips on our Support Sandwell website at www.sandwell.gov.uk/supportingsandwell.”
George Frost, spokesperson for Big Community Switch, said:
“Rising energy costs have placed a significant burden on households. This scheme offers a practical starting point for residents to make an informed decision about switching their energy supplier.
“By coming together as a community, people in Sandwell can access tariffs offered through the scheme that might not be available to them individually.”
Key features of the scheme:
● Free Registration: Households can sign up without any cost.
● No Obligation: Participants decide whether to accept the offer.
● Hassle-Free Process: The scheme handles negotiations with suppliers.
● Renewable Energy Options: Residents can choose 100% renewable electricity tariffs.
The Big Community Switch has already seen success in other regions, helping over two million households explore potential savings while simplifying the energy-switching process. With registration now open, households are encouraged to act quickly to take advantage of this opportunity.
Key dates:
● Registration closes: 17 March 2025
