More improvements are on the way at Britannia Park in Rowley Regis, including a dedicated toddler play area set to benefit local children and families.
The new toddler area will complement the existing play facilities unveiled in August 2024, providing a more inclusive and accessible space for young children. Upgrades to the park entrances at Ross and Mackmillan Road are also planned to provide better access.
Additionally, tree planting will include the creation of a new beech tree maze, and ecological signage will be installed. More sports pitches will also receive drainage upgrades.
These improvements are part of a £414,000 investment by Sandwell Council, using money received from the government’s Towns Fund programme. This funding will benefit Britannia Park as well as Haden Hill Park in Cradley Heath, where the existing steel play area will be replaced.
This additional £414,000 investment builds on the existing £2.7million project that is already delivering major improvements at Britannia Park, funded by the government’s Towns Fund programme, Government UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), Sandwell Council, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Sandwell Council Leader Councillor Kerrie Carmichael said: "It’s fantastic to see this extra investment going into Britannia Park and Haden Hill Park, and we have a real focus on expanding our play offer, making these wonderful green spaces even more family friendly. It’s so important for families to have safe and accessible spaces for their children to enjoy outdoor recreation."
“This latest announcement comes as we celebrate the completion of work on the new Football Association-approved changing rooms at Britannia Park, ready for teams and referees to use from the start of the new football season. This marks a key milestone in our Britannia Park improvement project.”
Other recent improvements delivered at Britannia Park include the addition of 15 new allotment plots, two refurbished tennis courts, an upgraded multi-games area (MUGA), an avenue of trees and a newly laid out, larger car park. A new skate park is also coming soon, and the nearby Britannia Park Sons of Rest community building will undergo refurbishment.
