The Transparency Code was issued on May 2014 by the Department for Communities and Local Government to increase democratic accountability and make it easier for local people to contribute to the decision making process.
The three principles behind this are:
- Demand led - New technologies and publication of data should support transparency.
- Openness - Provision of public data should become integral to local authority engagement with local people so it drives accountability.
- Timely - Public data should be made available as soon as possible.
