In the event that a scaffolding or scaffold tower has to be erected on the public highway/footway, and or to erect a hoarding to protect the public when construction activities are to take place, permission will be required from the council.
Apply for scaffolding

A completed application form.

A sketch plan indicating the position of the scaffolding, its dimensions and any street furniture or other obstructions which may hinder pedestrian/wheelchair traffic.

A fee of £275. Cheques should be made payable to Sandwell MBC or you may pay over the telephone using a credit or debit card by calling 0121 368 1177 or you can make the payment online.

The purpose of the scaffold and the operations that are to be carried out from it should be clearly indicated.

Safety provisions, such as fan hoardings, debris netting, reinforced polythene sheeting, brick guards, hoists, debris chutes should be clearly identified if they are intended to be provided.

Proof of public liability insurance cover for a sum of £5,000,000 to be provided by the main contractor.

Sandwell Council requires 10 days notice for scaffolding/ hoarding license applications.
Apply for hoarding
A hoarding or suitable fence should be erected to protect the public from activities on building sites, demolition sites and premises where construction activities are to take place.
In the event that the hoarding has to be erected on the public highway/footway, permission will be required from the council.
We will require the following;

Insurance details and fee must be submitted at the same time as the application and must be registered with the council before works commence.

The council will normally issue a permit which will be valid for a period of 90 days providing that there are no issues which would prevent this.
