Fair Access Protocol (FAP)

In accordance with Government Legislation, we have a Fair Access Protocol in place. This protocol is triggered when it has not been possible to secure a school place through the normal midyear admissions process. It ensures that unplaced children are offered a place at a suitable school as quickly as possible. There is no duty for local authorities or admission authorities to meet parental preferences for schools when offering places under the Protocol, but parents’ views will be taken into consideration.

The protocol does not apply to Looked After Children, nor pupils who have an Education, Health and Care Plan.

The protocol also seeks to ensure that no school, including those with available places is asked to take a disproportionate number of children who have been excluded from other schools, or who have challenging behaviour.
