Schools make their own decisions about opening when we have heavy snow or severe ice.
If your child's school is closed due to the weather, they will contact parents and carers directly to let them know. Look out for a text or email from school, and check the school website or the school's social media channels.
If you don't hear from your child's school, presume it's open as normal. Wrap up warm and wear sensible footwear for your journey.
School closures due to strike action
If your child’s school is closed due to strike action, schools will let parents and carers know directly.
For schools
Schools are asked to let the council's school organisation unit know if they are closed for any reason. Instructions on how to do this can be found on the schools' Extranet page (login required).
Information about school closures will no longer be shared on the council website or social media channels - so please inform parents through your usual channels if your school is closed.
