Sandwell MBC has an enhanced offer of support for international care workers. The safety of our international care workers is of paramount importance to us.
We are very experienced in recognising and dealing with modern slavery within international recruitment and have been recognised regionally and nationally for our national best practice and gold standard approach to protecting, preventing, and putting in place actions to address modern slavery.
Sandwell Council has been asked to lead the approach to modern slavery across the West Midlands. An essential part of this work is our strong partnership working with other organisations. Of key importance to us is the identification of potential victims of modern slavery, human trafficking and exploitation with the aim of safeguarding and supporting victims and potential victims with sign posting, as well as ensuring care and support needs are met. This ensures all our international care workers live and work in a safe environment. We are proactive in helping to prevent exploitation and disrupt any organised crime by confidentially presenting intelligence to the Home Office and police.
We are a modern slavery information sharing hub and share good practice across the region. We train care providers to ensure safety in the workplace. We also help raise awareness amongst the community groups where international care workers and displaced workers may gather and also deliver awareness raising sessions to care workers and care agencies.

Your Health
As a carer you are eligible for the free flu and Covid-19 vaccinations each winter. Vaccinations are a safe and effective way to protect you and those you care for from the severe effects of flu and Covid-19.
Immunisations work by safely introducing a dead or weakened virus or bacteria to the body. This allows the body to build natural defences to the infection without the risks of severe illness the infection could cause if caught. Immunisations reduce the severity and spread of infections keeping you and those you care for safe and well.
More information about flu and Covid-19 vaccinations can be found on the NHS website:
