Extra support for people with a learning disability or autism

Local Supported Employment Initiative

Sandwell Council are helping people with a learning disability or autism to get to a job through the Local Supported Employment Initiative.
The initiative is grant funded by the Department for Work and Pensions.

The features and benefits of the initiative include:

  • Support from a specialist employment adviser, who will agree work related goals with you
  • Benefits checks to make sure you are better off working
  • Employers will be contacted on your behalf to talk to them about job opportunities
  • Job coach support in the workplace
  • In-work support to help you sustain your job and develop your career

You can apply for this support if you:

  • Want a paid job
  • Have a learning disability, autism or both
  • Live in Sandwell
  • Are aged 18+
  • Are not on any other employment support programmes
  • Understand the benefit of participating in the initiative to find and sustain paid work
  • Are known to Adult Social Care or known to Sandwell Council with the same level of support as someone known to Adult Social Care
  • Happy to complete an eligibility check which will be sent to Jobcentre Plus
