Booking
a) Please email museum_learning@sandwell .gov.uk to request a booking
b) Please have a choice of possible specific dates in mind for your visit so that we can check staff availability
c) Please tell us which session you are looking to book at what building and any other changes/issues you wish to discuss
d) We will then ensure we can staff your session and that the building is available for your visit and then send you the booking form and guidance notes
Our sessions
Please note that due to planned conservation building work we aren;t taking bookings for Oak House before May half term 2024
1. Tudor Time Travelling- Houses and Homes and Old Toys, Oak House a day long session which sees the children travel back and learn about old toys and houses and homes 400 years ago. The children travel back in time and meet Tudor characters and explore life in a Tudor home in costume. The group explore how the kitchen is different and how homes with lit and heated and cleaned. The session also examines similarity and difference between life then and now, materials and how things work. The second group explore old toys and games in Tudor times and the children get to learn about life for children in the past. Max 33 children 10am-2:30pm available Tuesdays and Thursdays
2. Tudor Time Travelling - House builders and houses and homes at Oak House - In the morning the children explore what life was like living in a Tudor home looking at the differences in the kitchen, how houses were lit and heated and cleaned. The children are in costume travel back in time and meet Tudor characters. We also explore the similarities and differences with our homes today. In the shorter afternoon session the children are back in modern times at look at how Tudor homes were built. The sessions are also a great springboard for creative writing and literacy sessions. 3 A taste of the Tudors - Tudor Time Travelling - at Oak House (up to 2 classes) - The children take part in a number of hands-on activities throughout the day with costumed characters . One session looks at how Tudor houses were built, the children explore the kitchen and make pomanders and sweetened water, they write with quill pens and do some housework Tudor style while exploring this fantastic house inside and out. Please note we can only accommodate 2 classes if you are able to stay until 2;30pm. Max 60 children. Tues or Thurs
2. Victorian Time Travelling - Houses and Homes and Old Toys - Haden Hill House, a session which sees the children travel back and learn about old toys and houses and homes in Victorian times in costume and meeting Victorian characters. The session also explores then and now, similarity and difference, materials and how things work. The children et to undertake hands on activities showcasing what housework was like in Victorian times and also get to play with old toys and games. The sessions are also a great springboard for creative writing and literacy sessions. Maximum 33 children, Haden Hill House - 01384 569 444. 10am-2.30pm, Tues or Weds
3. Homes then and now- Haden Hill House. a half day session which sees the children undertake a tour, some hands on activities and examining old and new household objects. The sessions are also a great springboard for creaative writing and literacy sessions. Maximum 33 children, Haden Hill House - 01384 569 444. 10am-12.30pm. Tues or Weds
4. How we used to play- Toy handling session at Wednesbury Museum either a half day or full day session. Max 33 children in the museum. Come with us and you can explore aspects of toys and games in the past. Children look at old wooden toys, toys to teach children to be adults in the past, home made toys and imagination and clockwork toys. The children get to discuss and question, discover and explore as well as play with old toys. The session lasts 10am-12:30pm but if you wish to stay in the afternoon you can have lunch at the museum and look around in the afternoon and undertake our gallery trail and enjoy playing with more of our old toys and games. 5. We have a range of handling collections for use in the classroom which are great for looking at life in the past and examining key historical themes such as then and now and similarity and difference. They are however great for storytelling, creative writing, art and all subjects and topics. Email museum_learning@sandwell.gov.uk

6. William Morris - Patterns in Nature: Art, design, maths, famous people, Victorians. Haden Hill House, A full day session examining William Morris and his work, exploring the Morris Wallpaper at Haden Hill House, discovering repeat patterns by creating tiles and wallpaper and discovering his how he was inspired by nature. A great session for art and maths topics as well as famous people discovering William Morris himself. Maximum 33 children, Haden Hill House. 10am-2.30pm Tues or Weds
7. The Tale of Gideon Grove - Storytelling and literacy, history (The Gunpowder Plot). Oak House, A session based at the time of the Gunpowder Plot in 1605. A servant of one of the plotters escapes and rumour has it he is lurking around the grounds to Oak House. Your class will arrive as village children to discover the truth. A day of activities designed to help the children have an exciting experience within Gideon's story with lots of inspiration for creative writing and speaking and listening. The children learn about life in the house and get to examine objects, they have to look for clues and work in groups to discuss what the clues mean and what they tell the children about Gideon and who he is, there is then discussion, reflection and feedback. The day is undertaken in costume and character. Ideal for topics around stories and creative writing or the Gunpowder Plot. Maximum 33 children from 10am-2:30pm. Tues or Thurs
8. Fire Fire! The Great Fire of London - Oak House, A day looking at houses in 1666, how they were made, lighting, heating, cooking and furnishings and how this contributed to the spread of the Great Fire of London in 1666. The children examine how the Oak House was built and the fire hazards which lurked within in the 1600s. The children also explore how fires could be controlled or put out and get the chance to put out an imaginery fire in our Old Barn. Suitable for one class. max 33 children 10am-2:30pmpm. Tues or Thurs
8. Faerie Tales - Storytelling and literacy session. Bromwich Hall. Step into the happily ever after and explore our fairy tale medieval house with our fairy tale character. The children dress up, explore, discover, find clues, get inspired and develop skills through stories. Based around Jack and the Beanstalk. Fantastic to inspire creative writing, critical thinking and problem solving. Max 33 children, Bromwich Hall -10am-2:30pm or 10am-12:30pm, Weds, Thurs or Friday
