Local History Talks this Autumn at Wednesbury Museum: Talks are free to enter and are at 11:30am. Join us for some fantastic talks by Sandwell Archives outreach officer Maureen Waldron who has been delving into the archives and our museum collections. No need to book, just drop in.

October 24– ‘Sandwell 50th’. Why did we become part of Sandwell and what was there before?

November 21 – ‘Wednesbury in Old Photographs’ Take a tour around Wednesbury through the eyes of people who lived here decades ago.

December 12 – ‘Sandwell Cinema’s We Have Loved & Lost’. You may be surprised at how many cinemas there once were in the local area - find out more! The 12th December will also be a festive open day at the museum, enjoy a cuppa and a mince pie for a small charge and enjoy our museum and see the Nostalgia Rooms dressed for a 70s festive season!

The Amazing Hackwood. Saturday 9 November 12pm. It’s nearly Christmas 1918, time to celebrate peace in style. Pies, ale and puddings are planned and cheerful songs and lively dances recalled. Some cross words about Charles Dickens and Ms Pankhurst are also shared by the Hackwood family of Wednesbury. This is a read through sharing event of the first draft of the script for this brand new play by local playwright Adrian Johnson. Free event but booking is essential. Aladdin: Saturday 7 December 11am and 1pm. Aladdin is a festive favourite for pantos everywhere. Join us at Wednesbury Museum Saturday 7 December, Performances at 11am and 1pm. Join us again for a fantastic affordable festive panto in the surroundings of the beautiful Wednesbury Museum. A classic tale for the festive season with lots of thrills, spills and interactive fun from Stage-ed theatre company! £6 per person (2 years and over), tickets via ticketsource . Please check carefully which performance you have booked for. 

A Fantastic Journeys Christmas: A music and movement session for children with Additional Needs and siblings Saturday 7 December 11.30am and 1.30pm. Booking and more information available at ticketsource soon

AIM (Adults IN Museums) Soap Making Workshop: Thursday 5 December 10.30am. Join Jenn and Leah and make some indulgent festive soaps. £8.50 per person. There are a couple of free places for carers. Book at ticketsource.

Festive Open Day and local history talk: Thursday 12 December 11am-3pm.  Come and see our Museum and Art Gallery decorated for the festive season.  Visit our Nostalgia rooms with the traditional 60s and 70s decorations.  You can also enjoy our fantastic local history talk at 11.30am about Sandwell Cinemas we have lost - a nostalgic look back at the heyday of cinema going and the cinemas which were popular in the borough. Tea, coffee and mince pies available.  Open to all ages. Free Entry – no booking required.

Festive Picnic and Piano: Wednesday 4 December, 7-9pm.  Join us for an evening of festive tunes, old and new from our regular pianist, Matt Goodwin. All your festive favourites and a chance to sing along with some tunes too  Why not bring along a posh picnic to enjoy at your table. Suitable for all ages £3.50 per person includes tea / coffee.  Tickets available via ticketsource.

Photographs by Anthony McFarlane Open when the museum is open 2023 Exploring the Legacy of Jah Messiah, Esquire Sound System and the legacy of Sue Brown, distinguished writer and poet. “Together, sound systems and the spoken word became conduits for cultural preservation and progress, empowering the new established community of black descendants. They fostered a sense of pride in their heritage and a strong sense of community identity. As this legacy continues, the third generation inherits a resilient spirit, well-equipped to overcome obstacles and propel forward, honoring their past while shaping a brighter future”.

You can also explore how the museum and art gallery came to be and discover the amazing and extravagent opening ceremony, see photographs of Sandwell in the past and paintings done by our community painting groups of local landmarks

Entry is free to our building but there will be a small charge for crafts and some activities.
