What is an Abandonment? A property is deemed to be abandoned when the tenant is no longer in occupation and has failed to terminate the tenancy
What will happen after we have been notified a council property has been abandoned? Following receipt of the notification an officer will carry out an investigation to determine if the property is in fact abandoned or there is an alternative reason that the tenant is not there
What should I do if I have made a mistake? If you have notified us of an abandoned council property but later realise this is a mistake, please contact us as soon as possible to let us know
What happens to council properties that have been abandoned? When investigations have been complete, and the abandonment has been confirmed we will serve a legal notice to end the tenancy
Following the termination of the tenancy the property will be advertised and re-let via Choice based lettings
